008 Dublin road from the Air

A stunning 1953 aerial view of Clare Street and the Dublin Road. On the left is St. Patrick’s Church and St. Patrick’s Girls School. On the right are the grounds of the Good Shepherd Convent, the old Pennywell houses and the new housing estates of Keane Street and Flood Street.
The huge housing development of Garryowen was completed in the mid-1960s. Killalee graveyard is visible at the back of Keane Street. This view from the low-flying Coonagh aircraft can never be replicated. The entire area is completely built up whatever view one wishes to take. The reader should note the steam train apparently dissecting the middle of the road at the top of the picture
