017 Funeral of Bishop O'Neill

The funeral took place of Right Rev. Bishop Patrick O’Neill, Bishop of Limerick, who died on March 27, 1958. He was born in Fedamore on February 8, 1891 and ordained a priest on June 20, 1915. He was a priest for 42 years before being ordained Bishop in 1946. His funeral was one of the biggest seen in Limerick in many years.
Readers should note the Garryowen houses are still standing with no sign of the new Greenhill Road even being started. Kelly’s Range is still fully occupied while Merrick’s Public House must have done well from funerals which all went to Mount St. Laurence at the time
