In August, 1959, Todds was completely gutted by fire. When demolition began later that year the citizens of Limerick were reputedly treated to the sight of their first ever helicopter. Older readers will remember William Street Garda Station, the entrance of which can be seen at the bottom of the picture. Imco Cleaners are pictured right, beside the Garda barracks.
